Trans-Boundary River Management Phase II for the Kura River basin – Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan

The project supported development of a common approach to water quality monitoring and assessment based on the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD) methodologies; and enhanced technical capacities of environmental authorities and monitoring establishments to enable them to change their policies and practices in accordance with WFD.

 

Experts of Idea Design Group together with international experts of the project worked on the development of River Basin Management Plans for Aragvi, Khrami and Alazani pilot river basins. We developed common GIS databases for the information management and data exchange between the project countries; prepared proposal for improvements in the data structures, formats and information flows to facilitate decision making in the integrated water resources management in the project countries; conducted training for beneficiaries’ staff including provision of necessary technical guidelines and instructions.

 

Database on water quality, quantity and water use were updated and implemented in the National Environmental Agency and the Ministry of Environment of Georgia
